THE cracks in my skin

Written by PHIL PORTER

Funny, open-hearted, surprising and strange, Phil Porter's The Cracks in My Skin won the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting and premiered at The Studio at Manchester Royal Exchange in February 2008.

NOMINATED FOR BEST STUDIO PLAY AND BEST ACTOR IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS THEATRE AWARDS

this evening absolutely captures the terrible pain of being 16, the rapacious hunger to be loved and the strange hallucinatory magic of summers that feel as if they will never end.

there are some lovely performances here, most notably from Matti Houghton, whose look-no-hands portrayal of Janie would sweep the board at awards time if this play was in London rather than Manchester.

Outstanding...Matti Houghton's performance is so heartfelt I was moved to the point of tears on more than one occassion...Matti throws herself body and soul into her role.
